How It Works

Scent-based prevention.
Virex pouches release a blend of plant-based oils designed to help deter mice and rats by making the surrounding area less inviting.

Place where rodents may enter or hide.
Position pouches near potential entry points, under sinks, behind appliances, or in garages, basements and storage areas.

No baiting, resetting or trap cleanup.
The scent releases gradually from each pouch, so there are no traps to set or caught rodents to dispose of.

Use as directed on the packaging, alongside sealing gaps and keeping food securely stored. Results vary with placement and conditions.

Ingredients

Plant-based oil blend: Peppermint oil, cinnamon oil, cedarwood oil and a proprietary essential oil complex.

Carrier base: Castor oil helps the fragrance release gradually from the pouch.

Scent: Minty, with warm cinnamon and woody notes.

A Little Prevention. A Lot Less Hassle.

Every fall. Same cupboard, same little droppings. We catch a couple and think that's it, then it starts again. Honestly I'm tired of waiting until they're already in the house. That's why these caught my eye. I'd rather try to keep them away in the first place than spend another winter putting traps out.

My first thought was, I've already tried peppermint. I'm not buying something else just to make the garage smell nice lol. The pouch idea does appeal to me though. No mixing up spray or remembering to go round with the bottle again. Still sorting out the gaps by the garage door, but I'd consider these as an extra precaution.

I can set a trap. It's checking it the next morning that I hate 😩. Half the time I make my husband look, then neither of us wants to deal with it. I just want them out of the house without the whole catching and emptying routine. That's the part about these pouches that interests me. Nothing caught inside to clean up.

Your Questions, Answered

From where to put your pouches to what to expect.

We get mice every year. Is this for us?

Seasonal prevention is one way to use Virex. If you already know which areas attract unwanted visitors, you can include pouches in your preparations before the usual trouble starts.

Pair them with sealing entry gaps and securing food, pet food and animal feed. Pouches add a scent deterrent; they do not physically block an opening.

I’ve tried peppermint spray. How is this different?

The main difference is the format. Virex holds a blend of scented oils in a pouch, rather than requiring you to spray surfaces.

There is nothing to mix and no spray bottle to keep taking around the house. That makes it a different routine, but it does not guarantee better results in every setting.

Will these replace my traps or an exterminator?

Virex is designed to help deter rodents, rather than catch or kill them. The pouches themselves need no baiting or resetting, and there is no catch inside to dispose of.

If rodents are already nesting indoors, causing damage or leaving fresh droppings, you may need trapping, exclusion work or professional help as well.

How quickly will I know if they’re working?

There is no guaranteed timeline. Placement, airflow, access to food and the extent of rodent activity can all affect the outcome.

Watch for fresh signs such as droppings, chewing or scratching. If you are using pouches preventively, having no sightings alone does not prove they are responsible. Continue checking familiar trouble spots.

Where should I put them—and how many do I need?

Focus on potential access points and sheltered areas: under sinks, behind appliances, in garage corners, basements and storage spaces.

Follow your pack’s placement and spacing instructions. The number needed depends on the layout and conditions, so one pouch should not be treated as a barrier around an entire house. Keep pouches away from food-contact surfaces and out of reach of children and pets.

Can I use them in a home with children or pets?

Placement matters. These pouches contain scented oils, and plant-derived ingredients should not be assumed harmless if swallowed or handled.

Keep them where children and animals cannot reach, chew or open them, and follow the packaging precautions. If you are unsure about use around a particular pet, check with your veterinarian first.

Will my whole house smell like peppermint?

The pouches have a noticeable scent from peppermint, cinnamon and cedarwood oils. How strong it seems depends on the size of the space, ventilation and how many pouches you use.

They are not fragrance-free. Consider that before placing them in bedrooms or other spaces used by anyone sensitive to fragrances.

How long do they last? Do I need to keep checking them?

There are no catches to empty or mechanisms to reset. Use the replacement interval printed on your packaging and set a reminder when you put fresh pouches down.

Check occasionally that they remain intact and correctly positioned. Airflow and conditions can affect scent release, and you should still monitor the area for rodent activity.

Will mice just move into another room?

That is possible. A scent deterrent in one location does not seal other entry points or remove food and shelter elsewhere.

Think about the whole space. Follow the placement instructions, address access gaps and investigate any continuing activity rather than assuming the rodents have left the property.
